With the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) due to be established in just over a year, governments, firms and investors alike are gearing up for the opportunities that are expected to come along with a single market and production base that touts a free flow of goods, services, investment, capital and skilled labour among ASEAN member nations.

ASEAN has a nominal GDP of US$5.6 trillion and is expected to be the fourth largest economy in the world by 2050. This gives the region considerable influence over the global economy, which will be further compounded when the AEC takes effect. To achieve this however, challenges towards full integration must be resolved. For the F&B industry, that means taking on a harmonised approach towards customs, standards, and regulations.
