The order was made in the first quarter of this year and is for a dairy facility with the capacity to produce 150 tonnes of skim milk powder, and 120 tonnes of dairy whitener and baby food per day. The plant is scheduled to begin production in 2018.
The plant will be the largest skim milk powder and dairy whitener plant in Asia when completed. The facility will be installed on a turnkey basis and will process around 90,000 litres per hour of milk to produce multiple value-added products.
“The AmulFed milk powder plant at Gandhinagar will not be just the largest in Asia but it will also be the most environment friendly,” said Abhay Chaudhari, country managing director, India, GEA.
The evaporation plant will utilise the use of a mechanical vapour re-compression (MVR) system from GEA. MVR continuously recycles energy by re-compressing the vapour within the evaporator which reduces energy costs and carbon dioxide footprint. Moreover, a reverse osmosis polisher will be used to treat the milk condensate from the evaporation plant and recycle the water for reuse within the plant, which will reduce water usage.
The plant will be designed to operate in fully automated mode—including the powder production, conveying, storage, packing, final packed product conveying and a complete management information system.
