The company will increase production in its facility in Sonepat, Delhi, to cater to the growing demand in the Indian market.

The expanded plant will be able to produce 300,000 bottles of probiotic drinks per day, an increase from the current 200,000 bottles produced daily.

“India is a challenging market for us because of limited awareness about the benefits of probiotics,” said Minoru Shimada, managing director, India. “Our focus has therefore been on education and we are pleased to see that more and more Indian consumers are making Yakult a part of their daily diet for its health benefits.”

Mr Shimada also said that the company will embark on a phase to phase expansion.

The company’s products in India have been made available via both retail and home delivery channels.
