The world is fast adapting to the fourth industry revolution in all sectors, including the manufacture of food and beverages. What does Industry 4.0 entail and what should F&B manufacturers know? Christian Burdin, managing director, Festo, gives his opinion.
Hygienic and efficient automation in food production are key to protecting the consumer and the manufacturer’s brand. These lie in the basics of design and material of equipment. By Alexander Wagner, head of sector management food industry, Festo AG & Company KG
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Festo Didactic SE and Technical University of Munich Asia (TUM Asia) will jointly explore and develop education activities for students and employees interested in upskilling themselves in the areas of Automation Technology and Industrie 4.0 (Industry 4.0) in Singapore.
The quarter-turn actuator DSPD from Festo can be used in a variety of sectors. With a modern, simple and compact design, it can be used with ball valves, shut off valves or air dampers in the chemical, pharmaceutical or beverage industry, or for water treatment and other areas of process automation.
It is available in both a single-acting and double-acting version, and is suitable for temperatures between -20 and 80 deg C. With its versatile and corrosion-resistant surface coatings, it can also be used in harsh conditions, and mounted anywhere, offering high flexibility during operation.
Different valves such as Namur, robust pilot valves or solenoid valves can be used with the actuator, suiting it for a range of applications.
The MPA-C valve terminal, part of Festo’s ‘Clean Design’ portfolio, meets the requirements for protection class IP69K and Corrosion Resistance Class 4 (CRC4).
It features several valve functions, and its modular sub-base design suppor ts max imum flexibility that enables it to expand to a maximum of 32 valves or solenoid coils.
The valve terminal comes with a redundant seal system, which allows trouble-free and intensive cleaning with highpressure jets or foam so terminals can even be installed even in locations with harsh environmental conditions.
Made with FDA-compliant materials and lubricated with NSF-H1 food-grade grease, the MPA-C is suitable for use in both food and splash zones.
