The growth in the Asian food market driven by rising disposable incomes and greater exposure to a larger variety of new food products has provided the meat, poultry and seafood market with opportunities for future expansion into new markets. By Ricky Ong, Heat and Control

Alfa Laval’s FrontLine gasketed plate heat exchanger suits a wide range of hygienic heat transfer applications, from food to personal care industries.

Two different plate types optimise the heat exchanger for specific duties: the standard plate with Chevron pattern for good product distribution and high thermal efficiency; and the Gemini double wall plate which prevents cross contamination of the fluids in the event of leakage through the plates.

The plates provide gentle and uniform heat transfer between the two media involved, prolonging operating times and increasing productivity. Maintenance is made easy with increasing cleaning-in-place efficiency and less fouling which thereby increases production output.

Applications in the food and beverage industry are well suited to the use of heat transfer fluids, but improper maintenance can cause a myriad of issues for process engineers. With the food and drink industry’s strict regulations, preserving the quality of heat transfer fluid is now more important than ever.
