Unilever has suspended purchasing palm oil from Sawit Sumbermas Sarana (SSMS) due to its recent deforestation and peatland clearance.

When 40 percent of the world’s palm and palm kernel oil are produced by smallholders, the question of sustainability arises. Projects to support smallholders can improve their productivity and secure a sustainable supply chain.

With this project, the palm oil producer aims to boost sustainability commitments, help Indonesia tackle the complex fire and haze problems, and re-engage with The Forest Trust.

The project aims to develop a replicable, self-sustaining process to achieve certified sustainable palm oil production.
