World raw sugar prices have risen by 30 percent since mid-April, as the market started factoring in potentially lower global sugar output in 2016/17. Domestic sugar prices in Asia have also started to reflect tighter fundamentals.

It is no easy task to reduce sugar content while maintaining shelf-life and mouth feel. Advances in sweetener technologies have helped pave the way to healthier products that the new generation consumers crave. By Melvin Yap
