Hygiena has received extensions to its AOAC-Research Institute validation for BAX System Real-Time PCR Assay Suite for STEC for two additional matrices: 25 g flour and 25 g ground beef. The validation equates the assay to the reference culture method for detecting shiga toxin-roducing E. Coli (STEC) with faster time to results.

This certification helps food producers avoid contamination in flour, cake and pancake mixes, as well as raw dough. The 25 g ground beef validation provides European beef producers with an accredited method for detecting STEC. The assay suite in 25 g ground beef produces reliable and accurate results, and necessary information on pathogen presence. Real-time PCR assay also rapidly detects STEC in flour samples.
